OpenAI is planning to support the development of a vast new data centre in the United Arab Emirates, which could potentially become one of the largest in the world.

The creator of ChatGPT is expected to be one of the main anchor tenants of a 5-gigawatt data centre campus in Abu Dhabi, according to individuals familiar with the matter.

While the Microsoft-backed company’s involvement has not yet been confirmed, a formal announcement may be made in the near future, the report noted.

On Thursday, the UAE and the United States signed an agreement for the Gulf state to construct the largest AI campus outside of the United States.
