DHORDO, GUJARAT, INDIA – As the UAE settles into its cooler months, travellers looking for a short-haul change of scene have a new reason to look east to Gujarat. Namak resort, a boutique luxury tent resort near Dhordo in the Rann of Kutch, is hosting guests for its November 2026 to February 2027 season beside the white Rann, one of India’s most striking winter landscapes.
The Great Rann of Kutch is a vast salt desert that turns brilliant white in winter. Around Dhordo, it becomes the setting for Rann Utsav, a season of folk music, regional food and Kutchi craft. Namak sits on the Khavda-Dhordo Road, within easy reach of the salt flats for sunrise and full-moon evenings.
Rather than scale, Namak offers a small, considered stay. There are 21 tents in all: ten premium Tents of 392 sq ft, ten Super Premium Tents of 520 sq ft, and a single Darbari Suite of 1,200 sq ft. Each pairs patterned canvas with timber furniture, warm textiles and a sofa opposite the bed. Premium and Super Premium stays include breakfast, hi-tea and dinner with an evening cultural programme, so the only decision left is how long to stay out on the salt.
Rates are quoted per tent per night for two guests: Rs 8,500 plus GST for a Premium Tent, Rs 10,500 plus GST for a Super Premium Tent, and Rs 28,000 plus GST for the Darbari Suite, which adds all meals, priority check-in and transfers as per the confirmed itinerary. Beyond the White Rann, guests explore the Road to Heaven, the viewpoint at Kala Dungar, and the craft villages of Hodka and Nirona, home to embroidery, Rogan painting and lacquer work. Dhordo was named a Best Tourism Village in 2023.
