Saudi Arabia unveils groundbreaking AI venture, Humain, prior to Trump’s Visit

Saudi Arabia has launched Humain, a state-backed AI company under the Public Investment Fund (PIF), signalling a strategic move to become a global leader in artificial intelligence. Chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and backed by the PIF’s substantial $940 billion valuation, Humain will serve as the central entity for the kingdom’s AI development and investment. This announcement coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh, underscoring the significance of AI in the two nations’ strategic agenda.

Humain’s primary objectives include establishing Saudi Arabia as a global AI hub by offering a comprehensive range of services. These services encompass next-generation data centres, advanced AI infrastructure, robust cloud capabilities, and the development of sophisticated AI models. A key focus is the creation of a multimodal Arabic large language model, specifically designed to serve users within Saudi Arabia and across the broader Middle East.

This commitment to AI is supported by substantial investments in infrastructure. Projections indicate that the Saudi data centre market will experience significant growth, increasing from $1.33 billion in 2024 to an estimated $3.9 billion by 2030. This growth is fuelled by initiatives like Humain and strategic collaborations with leading global technology companies.

Humain’s launch is part of a broader strategy to foster international collaboration. The Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh, attended by prominent tech figures like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Mark Zuckerberg, highlights the kingdom’s intent to forge key partnerships in AI and other technology-driven sectors. Furthermore, collaborations with companies such as Groq and Cerebras, along with the development of the world’s largest AI inference data centre in partnership with Aramco Digital, illustrate Saudi Arabia’s proactive approach to constructing a comprehensive AI ecosystem.

The establishment of Humain is a crucial element of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, an ambitious plan aimed at diversifying the national economy away from its reliance on oil. AI has been identified as a critical sector for this economic transformation, with substantial investments being directed towards the development of AI technologies, essential infrastructure, and specialised talent. This strategic emphasis is designed to position Saudi Arabia at the forefront of the global AI landscape.

In conclusion, the launch of Humain marks a significant stride in Saudi Arabia’s determined pursuit of leadership in artificial intelligence. Through substantial financial commitments, the cultivation of strategic international partnerships, and a clear alignment with the goals of Vision 2030, the kingdom is actively building the foundation for a future where AI plays a pivotal role in its economic progress and technological advancement.
