What led to you founding Morris Global Consultancy?

A number of reasons. I am a fashion designer by trade, and I set up my first business at 20, straight out of college, designing and making clothing. I definitely learnt all the lessons of what not to do! In the years that followed, I went into retail management, fashion buying, and building brands for wholesale, and I kept seeing the same problem repeated across the fashion and retail industry. Founders and brands were receiving fragmented advice from multiple consultants, agencies, designers, manufacturers, and marketers, but nobody was taking responsibility for connecting all the pieces together commercially.

After more than 16 years working across fashion, retail, manufacturing, and international markets, I saw an opportunity to build a business that could support brands from concept to consumer. We were the first agency in the industry to offer a full 360-degree service, from education through to end-to-end execution. Today, we help brands not only develop products and strategies, but also execute them, whether that means sourcing suppliers, entering new markets, securing retail partnerships, scaling operations, or building global expansion plans.

Along my journey, I also realised that I not only loved creativity from a design perspective, but that I also loved the creativity involved in developing and running businesses, from finance to the end consumer and everything in between. I really wanted a job that would allow me to be fully engaged in what I truly enjoyed doing. That role did not exist anywhere I looked, so that, coupled with the glaring gap in the market for less fragmented advice, led me to build MGC. In effect, my job didn’t exist, so I built a company around it so that it would.

What connects all of our clients is a desire to build commercially sustainable businesses rather than simply launch products.

What lessons have you learned from working with 500+ global brands?

The biggest lesson I preach is that great products alone do not build great businesses. The brands that succeed are the ones that understand their customer deeply, remain disciplined in their decision-making, and focus relentlessly on commercial viability.

I’ve also learned that growth is rarely about doing more

More often, it’s about doing fewer things exceptionally well. The strongest brands have clarity around their positioning, product offering, target audience, and financial model.

Finally, adaptability has become one of the most important competitive advantages. Markets change quickly, and the brands that survive are those willing to evolve and work in an agile manner while staying true to their core identity.

Why do you believe right now there is a great opportunity for UAE and GCC brands seeking international expansion? OR Why is now the best time for UAE and GCC brands to expand internationally?

The perception of GCC brands has changed dramatically over the last decade. International consumers, retailers, and investors are increasingly looking towards the region as a source of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Governments across the GCC have also invested heavily in developing world-class infrastructure, logistics networks, creative industries, and business ecosystems.

At the same time, digital commerce has significantly lowered the barriers to international expansion. Brands can now reach customers globally without needing hundreds of physical stores. The combination of strong regional growth, increasing global interest in the Middle East, and improved access to international consumers creates a unique opportunity for GCC brands to establish themselves on the world stage.

It’s not before time, to be honest. There are enormous opportunities globally and, despite many markets appearing saturated, there are still significant gaps and underserved markets that GCC brands can capitalise on if they approach expansion correctly.

What are the most common mistakes regional brands make when attempting to scale internationally?

One of the biggest mistakes is assuming that success in one market automatically translates into success elsewhere. Many brands underestimate the importance of localisation. Consumer behaviour, pricing expectations, marketing channels, retail structures, and even product preferences can vary significantly between markets, and sometimes even from city to city within the same market.

Another common mistake is expanding too quickly without the operational foundations required to support growth. International expansion should be treated as a strategic investment, not simply a sales exercise.

The most common mistake, I would say, is that many founders focus heavily on visibility and brand awareness while neglecting profitability, supply chain readiness, and customer retention. Big mistake. Huge! They then learn the hard way, losing a lot of money and brand confidence in the process, and it really doesn’t have to be that way.

You only have to do things right once. If not, be prepared for some very costly mistakes.

What differences do you see between succeeding in the GCC market versus markets such as Europe, the UK, or the US?

The GCC is relationship-driven, highly dynamic, and often moves at a faster pace than many Western markets. However, it can also be more fickle, as consumers gain and lose trust quickly. Personal networks, trust, and reputation remain extremely important.

Markets such as Europe and the UK tend to be more mature and competitive, with consumers placing greater emphasis on heritage, sustainability credentials, and long-term brand consistency. In North America, brands often need stronger differentiation and a clear commercial proposition to stand out in an incredibly crowded marketplace.

While the fundamentals of building a strong business remain the same, successful brands understand that market entry strategies must be adapted to local consumer behaviour and commercial realities.

Brands need to be extremely diligent during the market research and feasibility stages, which I know everyone loves to skip because of the costs involved. However, this is actually where you can make the educated decisions that will ultimately determine whether your brand gains traction in a new market or not.

How are you supporting UAE and GCC brands in translating cultural relevance into globally competitive, commercially scalable businesses?

We help brands identify what makes them unique and then translate that into a proposition that resonates internationally.

One example involved a GCC-based fashion brand preparing for expansion beyond the region. Rather than positioning itself solely through regional heritage, we helped the brand combine its cultural identity with a stronger focus on craftsmanship, quality, and contemporary design. This allowed it to appeal to international buyers while maintaining its authenticity.

The result was successful entry into new retail channels and a significantly broader customer base, without compromising the brand’s core identity. The most successful brands are those that use culture as a differentiator rather than a limitation.

I can’t share specific details due to confidentiality agreements and NDAs, but the principles and approach remain consistent across many of the brands we support.

Looking back over the last 20+ years in the industry, what have been the biggest changes in luxury retail and consumer brands?

The biggest change has been the shift from product-led luxury to experience-led luxury, and the fact that consumers today are far more informed, connected, and selective than ever before. They are buying into stories, values, communities, and experiences just as much as they are buying products.

Digital transformation has also fundamentally changed how brands build relationships with consumers. Social media, e-commerce, data analytics, and direct-to-consumer models have reshaped the retail landscape and continue to do so at a rapid pace. At the same time, consumers are increasingly demanding transparency around quality, sustainability, ethics, and value, forcing brands to become more accountable than ever before.

This has been particularly evident within the luxury sector in recent years

Consumers are no longer willing to accept lower-quality goods or endless price increases. Ultimately, luxury should represent luxury, and that means true craftsmanship, rarity, an exceptional buying experience, outstanding aftercare service, and a genuine sense that the brand values your custom.

In my opinion, many luxury brands have struggled to uphold those standards in recent years.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs launching a luxury or lifestyle brand today?

    1. Focus on building a business, not just a brand that looks good on a grid. Get the right team around you and listen to what they are telling you. They have done it many times before, so when they say it will cost X, Y, and Z to execute your plans, believe them!

    2

Many founders invest heavily in logos, packaging, social media, and launch events while overlooking the fundamentals of profitability, operations, customer acquisition, and cash flow.

    3. Start with a clear understanding of who your customer is, what problem you are solving, and why your product deserves to exist.

    4. Be patient. The strongest brands are built over years, not months. Consistency, resilience, and commercial discipline will always outperform chasing trends. Fashion is a long-term game. Think five to ten years to achieve real success, not five to ten months.

Most importantly, remember that luxury is not defined by price. It is defined by value, quality, trust, and experience.

    What is next for you?

We are entering an exciting phase of growth, expanding Morris Global Consulting across the GCC and internationally. We are also continuing to develop our production capabilities in Dubai to further support the local economy, while strengthening our teams and services for brands looking to scale across the GCC, Europe, and North America.

Personally, I am passionate about helping position the UAE and the wider GCC as a global hub for fashion, retail innovation, and entrepreneurship. I also hope to continue contributing to industry conversations around sustainability, ethical growth, and the future of consumer brands.
