Qatar will terminate its temporary automatic extension policy for expired and expiring entry visas from Sunday, June 7, 2026, according to the Ministry of Interior. Moreover, the decision marks a return to standard visa enforcement procedures after several months of emergency measures. Therefore, travellers will again be subject to normal validity rules and compliance requirements.

The temporary extension regime was introduced earlier in 2026 after regional airspace disruptions linked to the Iran conflict affected travel flows. Additionally, the policy had automatically extended eligible visas without fees or applications. However, authorities have now confirmed that this exceptional mechanism will be withdrawn as conditions stabilise.

Standard visa rules and compliance requirements restored

From June 7, all entry visa categories will revert to standard validity periods, fees and renewal procedures. Moreover, visa holders will be required to follow approved renewal channels and timelines without automatic extensions. Therefore, compliance obligations for visitors and residents will increase under the reinstated framework.

Additionally, authorities have urged all individuals to verify their legal status and ensure timely renewals. However, overstaying beyond visa validity will again trigger penalties and legal consequences. As a result, stricter enforcement is expected compared with the temporary relief period.

Transition back to normal immigration framework

The Ministry of Interior initially introduced the automatic one-month extension in March 2026 in response to regional travel disruption. Moreover, the system was designed to ease pressure on stranded travellers and maintain administrative flexibility. Therefore, the policy served as a temporary stabilisation measure during transport disruptions.

Additionally, officials have now confirmed that visa procedures will fully return to the approved regulatory framework. However, authorities continue to encourage travellers to use official digital platforms for renewals and inquiries. As a result, visa management is expected to shift back to a compliance-driven system focused on timely processing and enforcement.
